International Year of St. Paul

Pope Benedict XVI has proclaimed June 28, 2008 through June 29, 2009 to be the International Year of St. Paul in celebration of the 2000th anniversary of St. Paul's birth. This Jubilee Year begins and ends on the Solemnity of Ss. Peter and Paul and will give Christians throughout the world an opportunity to rediscover this Apostle to the Gentiles and his letters, which make up one-fourth of the writings of the New Testament. Click here for a description of the many ways we at OLPH will celebrate the Year of St. Paul.

Pilgrimage In the Footsteps of St. Paul

In celebration of the International Year of St. Paul, Fr. Eric invites you to join him on the pilgrimage of a lifetime to Greece, Turkey, and Rome: In the Footsteps of Saint Paul (June 17-29, 2009). This 13-day pilgrimage will visit many of the major places St. Paul traveled to as he spread the gospel. We will visit three of the cities to which St. Paul wrote letters (Corinth, Ephesus, and Rome) as well as several other places he preached (including Athens and Rhodes) and the location of his martyrdom and burial in Rome. Highlights of the tour include:

  • A three-day cruise through the Aegean Sea to the Greek islands of Mykonos, Rhodes, and Patmos, with a shore excursion to the ancient city of Ephesus in Turkey.
  • Four full days in Rome, including a Papal Audience and visits to the four Major Basilicas.
  • Tours of two of the most celebrated museums in the world: the Vatican Museums in Rome and the National Archeological Museum in Athens.
  • Daily Mass, celebrated in churches in the cities visited, including Mass celebrated in the Church of St. Alphonsus (Rome), which houses the original icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help on the Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
  • Beyond St. Paul, the pilgrimage will also visit the cave where St. John wrote the Book of Revelation on the island of Patmos, the house where St. Mary lived in Ephesus, and the tombs of eight of the twelve apostles.

This pilgrimage is organized by Pentecost Tours of Batesville, Indiana. The price of $4,599 per person includes round-trip airfare from either Louisville or Cincinnati, accommodations in first-class hotels, breakfast and dinner virtually every day, and all admissions and touring fees. Click here to see a copy of the brochure, or pick one up at each of the entrances to the Church. Make plans now to join in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk in the footsteps of St. Paul during this jubilee year!

An informational meeting for anyone who would like more information about the pilgrimage will be held on Tuesday, September 30 at 6:30 pm in Ed Day Hall (in the basement of the Parish Center). At that time, a more detailed overview of the trip will be given and any questions will be answered.
